Preparations – Helicopter Sling Operations

Before any helicopter operation starts, it is a requirement from the CAA that the pilot should perform a review of helicopter safety . All participating parties should be present. If any of the participating parties does not understand the language, the whole operation is already exposed negative and should not be implemented until the situation is rectified on . The points below are examples of what is recommended as a minimum in such a review

SJA – Safe Job Analysis

This is a more comprehensive list recommended especially for cargo flights. SJA dealt with in a separate point

  • Procedure for moving people , equipment and goods to and from the helicopter.
  • Hazards by approaching a helicopter with rotor in motion.
  • Use of seat belts.
  • Using headphones and / or terrestrial radio .
  • Opening and closing of doors
  • Security at the landing place – Loose objects , obstacles, surfaces on site , hand signals .
  • Location of first aid kit .

Ask the Pilot

The Helicopter industry uses many technical terms that often combines Norwegian and English. This can be difficult to understand if one is not itself in the industry. If you do not ask if anything is unclear , there is no opportunity for the pilot to know what is understood and not .
